How Much Do Escape Rooms Cost? Your Guide to Finding the Best Deals

Are you looking for an affordable escape room adventure combining fun, challenge, and great company?

Escape rooms immerse players in movie-like worlds – A great way to step away from the everyday grind.

Perfect for a fun night or weekend out, and also to make special occasions genuinely memorable.

Think birthdays, anniversaries, corporate team-building events, and holiday outings around Christmas or Memorial Day.

But how much do escape room games really cost?

In this blog, we’ll break down escape room pricing, what factors affect costs, and how you can save money on your next game.

Let’s begin – and watch out for the pro tips to score deals!

How much does an Escape Room cost per person?

As we will see later, escape room pricing per head depends on team size and game duration.

Typically ticket prices for an escape room team of 5-6 people can vary from $30 to $50 per person, for a standard 60-minute game.

But where you live (or visit) makes a big difference.

Escape rooms in high-cost states like New York and California consistently rank among the most expensive (Like with almost everything else.)

NYC escape rooms typically run $40–$55 per person, with horror-themed or high-production experiences pushing toward the top of that range.

Boutique San Francisco venues offering cocktails and live actors can push well beyond that.

Head to the Midwest, and escape room bookings get friendlier on your wallet.

Downtown Chicago rooms average around $38 per person, while suburban Illinois venues start closer to $37.

Venture further into smaller Midwest cities and you can easily find solid rooms for $20–$30.

States with lower foot traffic – think Ohio or Kansas – regularly offer escape rooms in the $20–$30 range.

What is the Average Cost of Escape Room Games in NYC?

<a href= escape room prices” class=”wp-image-21996933″/>

As of 2026, typically across NYC, a 6-person team should be able to book escape rooms for $30–$50 each.

Escape room pricing in Manhattan, Brooklyn & Queens

Escape rooms in high-traffic areas (like a Manhattan NYC escape room) tend to charge more due to rental costs and demand. Tickets run $40 per person on weekdays and $45–$50 on weekends.

Brooklyn and Queens offer a bit more breathing room on price, though not as much as you might expect.

The Escape Game Brooklyn starts from $43 per person – barely a dollar less than its Manhattan location.

Smaller independent venues in both boroughs do tend to come in under $40, but the savings are modest.

Escape room pricing in Long Island and near NYC

Venture further out and the price drops more noticeably. On Long Island, Escape Zone Long Island charges $40 per person for general admission – reasonable for the area, and their IT-themed room adds a live actor on weekend evenings for added value.
Across the Hudson, New Jersey is where you’ll find the most significant savings near NYC: Escapology, with multiple NJ locations, charges $29 per person for always-private rooms NJ Family, while Amazing Escape Room in Freehold runs $33 per person.

What Factors Affect Escape Room Prices?

unique challenges and experiences

Not all escape rooms are built the same, and neither are their price tags. Here are the key factors that determine escape game ticket prices.

Location

Real estate costs are the single biggest driver of escape room pricing.

Big cities like New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago command higher prices because of higher rent and operating costs.

Within cities, it matters too – a Midtown Manhattan venue pays dramatically more in rent than one in Queens or New Jersey, and that flows straight into your ticket.

Private vs. Public Booking

As you’d expect, a public escape room booking can cost less per player, depending on whether other people book the same slot with your team.

However, according to Room Escape Artist’s December 2025 U.S. Industry Report, 78% of American escape rooms are now always private, reflecting a major industry shift away from being paired with strangers.

Note: Reviews suggest the vast majority of escape room players prefer private bookings (i.e. no awkward pairups with strangers) even if it costs a little more. That’s why BrainXcape offers private escape rooms by default.

Number of players in your escape room team

Pretty sure we’re stating the obvious but bigger groups generally pay less per person.

For example, smaller groups of 2–4 players can pay up to $60–$100 per person in NYC, while groups of 5–8 can expect a reduced rate of $40–$55.
And many venues offer discounts for very large groups.

You’ll see this in action when we break down our own escape room pricing.

Pro booking tip: If you’re booking escape rooms as a couple, consider doing a double date. That’s because the sharpest drop in per head pricing occurs from 2 to 4 players. It’s very possible you could pay as much as 30% to 40% less per player for a 4 player team than for a couple (2-player team).

When you book

Weekday pricing (Monday–Thursday) is typically $5–$15 cheaper per person than weekend rates.

And off-peak daytime slots often carry additional discounts.

Holiday periods like Halloween or Christmas frequently see prices spike at popular venues.

Game duration

Standard escape rooms run 60 minutes, but some venues offer longer escape rooms (90 minutes or more) – which generally cost more due to longer staff involvement and operational overhead.

For example, Exit Lab in Houston offers a 90-minute escape room at $37 per player, lower than their usual $33 each.

Of course it goes without saying that shorter-duration escape games (like 45-minute ones, 30-minute ones, etc) should cost less.

Technology & Production Level

The more elaborate the experience, the higher the price.

High-tech rooms with custom sensor-based puzzles, cinematic set design, and multi-room layouts require significant upfront investment – which again gets reflected in your ticket.

Rooms featuring advanced electronics, intricate puzzles, or immersive environments usually command a premium.

Other features and add-ons

Live actors are a common premium feature in many escape rooms which can command premium pricing.

And some escape rooms go even further – Like Lore SF in San Francisco bundles a live actor, cocktails, and up to 100 minutes of gameplay for $86.50 per person.

Event bookings & packages

Also, many escape rooms (like us) offer event bookings like for team building and birthdays – that could be priced higher than normal bookings, if they have add-on facilities like a party room, catering, custom game modifications, and so on.
Sneak Peek: On the other hand, you can also get special birthday offers – We will touch upon that in the next section, Tips for finding affordable Escape Rooms and deals

Tips for Finding Affordable Escape Rooms in NYC

escape room tips

Whether this is your first escape room or your fiftieth, these practical tips will help you zero in on budget-friendly escape games and great offers and deals.

Look for Special Offers, Loyalty Programs and Holiday Deals

Many escape rooms run limited-time promotions around holidays and seasonal events, typically advertised on their website or via email, and often only available for a short window.

Think Black Friday & Cyber Monday, Mother’s Day, and Valentine’s Day.

Loyalty programs at some venues go further, offering points redeemable for discounts, merchandise, or priority booking on new rooms.

Book During Off-Peak Times

Weekday pricing is typically lower than weekend rates, especially for earlier daytime slots

Here at BrainXcape for example, book for a Tuesday afternoon and you can save up to $10 per person compared to a Saturday night.

Plan Ahead – But Know When Last-Minute Works Too

Booking early generally secures both better availability and lower rates, particularly for popular rooms on weekends.

Some escape rooms in NYC and elsewhere have adopted dynamic pricing, so rates go up the closer a time slot gets.

Note: BrainXcape does NOT have dynamic pricing.

Pro Booking Tip: If you’re booking escape rooms same-day, it’s worth calling ahead – some venues offer a small discount on unfilled slots rather than let them go empty.

Check for Group Discounts

As we will see when we break down BrainXcape’s pricing, the more players you have in your group, the less you pay per head.

Some escape rooms offer large group discounts over and above that.

For example, apart from pricing per player varying from $90 for 2-player teams to $40 for 10-player teams, you could get a 10% offer if you book for 12 or more players.

Look for Event and Birthday Deals

Special occasions come with their own perks.

For example, many escape room venues offer birthday packages that can include a free or discounted game for the birthday guest when accompanied by a minimum number of participants.

Follow Venues on Social Media and Subscribe to Newsletters

Escape rooms frequently announce flash sales, seasonal discounts, and exclusive themes through social media and email newsletters.

Some offer subscriber-only codes that aren’t advertised elsewhere.

Pro tip: If booking via a third party site, read the fine print as some deals restrict room choice or scheduling flexibility.

Use Gift Cards and Vouchers

Many escape rooms offer their own discounted gift cards. Particularly around the holidays, when gift card bundles at reduced denominations are common.

Bonus Tip for Affordable Escape Room Tickets – Beta Testers and Soft Launches

When an escape room launches a brand-new game, they often need real players to test it before the official rollout.

Some venues offer beta testers exclusive early access to new rooms – sometimes at a heavily discounted rate – in exchange for detailed feedback.

The experience may not be as smooth as a finished game, but for deal-hunters and escape room enthusiasts, it’s one of the best-kept secrets in the industry.

Keep an eye on venue newsletters and social media for soft-launch announcements.
